2022 is almost over!

Hey, folks!

Thank you for signing up to my newsletter. Since I don’t have any social media anymore, this will be the best way to keep up with whatever it is that I’m doing. Sorry, there won’t be a schedule for the newsletter. I know some people like to get these weekly or even monthly. I’m more of the ‘when I have time and a lot going on’ type of person.

I’ll start with me in general. Things are fine. I had my second cardiac ablation in April and things are much better with the heart stuff. I still have a few skipped beats here and there but the doc says that’s normal and is keeping me on a blood thinner. My back is another can of worms. For those of you who don’t know, I have degenerative disc disease and a little bit of scoliosis. It’s been causing me some pain for a long time. I had a spinal fusion about 17 years ago and I thought the pins and screws were giving me some problems in my lower back and hip. They took some X-rays and said the hardware was fine, I have some bone spurs, and I need a MRI for them to really see what is going on. I fought the insurance company all summer and fall just to get them to cover the MRI and finally got it scheduled for Tuesday. I also have an appointment on January 3rd to go over the images and treatment with the doctor. And while waiting for the MRI to get approved I managed to tear my meniscus, or that’s what they think happened as they didn’t do any imaging, so I’ve been hobbling around in a knee brace all month.

On to the writing stuff . . .

I was on a podcast last week where myself, Kristopher Triana, and John Wayne Comunale talk about The Creature from the Black Lagoon. If you wanna see me stumble all over that you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/lVPdKyzV5ag

I’m currently working on writing a short story for an anthology. I’m not sure if I can give you much more info on that at them moment. But I do have two stories in two anthologies coming out in 2023. The first story is in American Cannibal from Maenad Press. You can pre-order the hardcover and Kindle, available March 7, 2023, by going here: https://www.amazon.com/American-Cannibal-Rebecca-Rowland/dp/B0BLJ7BNMJ And the second is a poem for a women in horror poetry collection from Black Spot Books called Under Her Eye which you can pre-order for November 7, 2023 by visiting here: https://www.amazon.com/Under-Her-Eye-Horror-Collection-ebook/dp/B0BLXC2F4X

Other than the short stories and poetry I haven’t written at all this year. Sorry, folks, the brain fog that comes with surgical menopause is no joke. I have trouble focusing and can’t seem to write more than 300 words at a time when it comes to fiction. I’m hoping I’ll be able to write something next year, but honestly, I’m not going to stress about it or beat myself up if I don’t. Chuck Palahniuk was once asked if he wrote everyday. I can’t remember his exact response but it was along the lines of: Writing when you don’t feel like writing is the equivalent of trying to shit when you don’t have to go. I stand by that completely. I’ll write again when it doesn’t feel like an exhausting chore.

And to the publishing . . .

In the meantime I have Grindhouse Press to run. I’m currently in the process of finishing up all the files for next year’s publications. The first book will go live on January 13, 2023. And it’s the end of the year, so I’m also stocking up on all the Grindhouse Press goodies like stickers, bookmarks, and buttons since tax season is right around the corner.

As for events, I’ve signed Grindhouse up to vend at a few events early next year. You can find out more about those by heading over to our site: https://grindhousepress.com/2022/12/18/come-join-us/

Thanks again for signing up to this newsletter! I hope you all have happy holidays and be safe.
