This was a two costume year. My first costume was for a Halloween party. Halloween night of 2024 I sat down and watched The Substance. As soon as I saw Demi Moore in that yellow trench coat I was immediately formulating a costume in my head. Sadly, only one person got the reference at the party and I later discovered it was because Andy told them I was Elizabeth Sparkle.
Since no one knew who I was supposed to be, and since The Substance isn’t exactly a kid’s movie, I decided to get a different costume to pass out candy. And I’m glad I did since it was very cold here in this part of Ohio. So, to pass out candy I went as …
The Mothman! Harbinger of doom!
And when anyone asked, I made sure to add the harbinger of doom on the end. I spent the rest of the night wear the costume and rewatched Hereditary. As usual, we ended up with nearly 500 trick-or-treaters. I’m concerned about how much candy to get next year because it will fall on a Saturday. I don’t know if that means more kids or not.
What we were most happy about though was that our yard became the place for photo ops. So many kids were intrigued by our eight foot flying witch and the twelve foot skeleton. We’re hoping to add a scarecrow to the bunch next year.
